These four statues located in the Belvedere Courtyard stood out as masterpieces in the Vatican statuary. (There are six miles of museums here, we are only seeing a fraction on our trip today.)
1. Statue of Alexander the Great by Leocares (sp?) called Apollo Belvedere.
2. A statue of a god which was repurposed as a fountain flowing into an Egyptian granite bath.
3. Trojan war scene with Poseidon, protector of the Greeks. This is a Hellenistic marble remake in the 1st century BC of a bronze 2nd cent BC original.
4. Family funeral scene depicting an aristocratic mother and father entering the afterlife.
